ACAMPADA DE MUJERES
10 – 19 octubre Bruselas:
“SALIR DE CASA POR GAZA”
Las mujeres de la Liga Internacional de Mujeres por la Paz y la Libertad (WILPF) y Mujeres de Negro contra la guerra, de distintos países europeos, Ante lo que está sucediendo en Gaza: los miles de muertos, la mayoría mujeres, niñas y niños, bajo las bombas o de hambre, sed, enfermedades; el bombardeo de hospitales, escuelas; el asesinato de periodistas, de trabajadores humanitarios…, en suma, el comportamiento genocida del Gobierno de Israel, persiguiendo la eliminación de todo un pueblo y la apropiación de su territorio; y la inacción y/o impotencia de la comunidad internacional, pensamos:
- Que el silencio es complicidad
- Que como ciudadanas europeas hemos de levantar la voz y ejercer nuestra presión, no sólo en nuestros Gobiernos, sino también en las instituciones europeas (Comisión y Parlamento de la UE) que disponen de resortes prácticos y efectivos para presionar al gobierno de Israel.
- Que es preciso ir más allá del apoyo a campañas de firmas en la red, que están bien, pero no basta.
Qué hacer
Queremos sumarnos a tantas voces de paz surgidas en las poblaciones del mundo, que intentan incidir por diversas vías para detener la eliminación de todo un pueblo, su derecho a vivir y a hacerlo en su territorio. Y hacerlo situándonos en la estela de las constructoras de paz que han actuado a lo largo de la historia.
La inspiración y el ejemplo que ahora tomamos en nuestras manos para oponernos a la inacción de la UE se sitúa en septiembre de 1984. En ese tiempo, ante una posible guerra nuclear cuya probabilidad aumentaba si seguía la escalada del rearme y las amenazas entre los dos bloques enfrentados en la Guerra Fría, las mujeres del Campamento de Greenham Common (Reino Unido) hicieron el siguiente llamamiento: “que diez millones de mujeres salgan de su casa del 20 al 30 de septiembre a manifestarse contra los preparativos de la guerra”. Si antes los hombres salían de casa para hacer la guerra, salgamos nosotras para construir la paz.
Qué pedimos
Con este espíritu, pedimos a la UE que:
- Actúe para garantizar la ayuda humanitaria constante y suficiente, gestionada por Naciones Unidas, a la población de Gaza siguiendo los principios del Derecho Internacional Humanitario.
- Ejerza su influencia para forzar a Israel a un alto el fuego permanente y el fin de la ocupación. Y que los rehenes sean devueltos a casa y los presos palestinos liberados.
- Suspenda el acuerdo de asociación con el Estado de Israel ante la vulneración de la cláusula sobre el respeto a los derechos humanos, incluida en el propio acuerdo.
- Establezca de inmediato un embargo a la compra y venta de armas a Israel.
Sentido de la iniciativa
El foco es la UE, de ahí que la acción se sitúe en Bruselas.
Teniendo siempre en mente la población de Gaza, y en particular las mujeres y los niños y niñas, los rasgos característicos de la iniciativa son:
- Incidencia sobre la UE para que su postura y su acción frente al genocidio de Gaza sea más contundente.
- Solidaridad: con la población que sufre y muere cada día.
- Testimonio: Salir del espacio de confort y levantar la voz por la defensa de los derechos humanos y la legislación internacional.
Plan de la iniciativa
1.- El mensaje principal es “Salir de casa por Gaza”.
2.- El núcleo de la acción es la realización de una acampada de mujeres de carácter simbólico y estrictamente noviolento. El campamento se establecerá en el jardín de La Viale, del 10 al 19 de octubre. Los días iniciales (del 10 al 12) se dedicarán a tareas de organización.
a.- Capacidad para unas 40 tiendas, 80-100 personas acampadas.
b.- Asunción de responsabilidad, asegurando el orden, limpieza y respeto del horario de silencio.
c.- En la acampada no se realizarán actividades que puedan producir molestias al entorno.
3.- Las actividades programadas a lo largo de la semana se concertarán con las asociaciones sociales y entidades belgas, en locales o espacios que se soliciten con los permisos correspondientes.
4.- Las actividades concluirán el sábado 18 con una gran acción simbólica consistente en una cadena humana, “Abrazo al Parlamento” (Punto de salida: La Viale a las 10:00 a.m.), que finalizará con una concentración en la Plaza de Luxemburgo.

“LEAVING HOME FOR GAZA”
The women of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and Women in Black Against War, from different European countries, In view of what is happening in Gaza: the thousands of deaths, mostly women, girls and boys, from bombing or hunger, thirst and disease; the bombing of hospitals and schools; the murder of journalists, humanitarian workers… in short, the genocidal behavior of the Israeli government, seeking the elimination of an entire people and the appropriation of their territory; and the inaction and/or impotence of the international community, we believe that:
- Silence is complicity
- As European citizens we must raise our voices and exert pressure, not only on our governments, but also on the European institutions (the EU Commission and Parliament) which have practical and effective means of putting pressure on the Israeli government.
- We must go beyond supporting online petition campaigns, which are good, but not enough.
What can we do?
We want to join the many voices for peace that have emerged among the peoples of the world, who are trying in various ways to stop the elimination of an entire people, their right to live and to do so in their own territory. And we want to do so by following in the footsteps of the peacemakers who have acted throughout history.
The inspiration and example we are now taking up opposing the EU’s inaction dates to September 1984. At that time, faced with the possibility of nuclear war, the likelihood of which was increasing as the two sides in the Cold War continued to escalate their rearmament and threats, the women of Greenham Common Camp (United Kingdom) made the following appeal: ‘Ten million women leaving their homes from 20 to 30 September to demonstrate against the preparations of war’. If men used to leave home to wage war, let us leave home to build peace.
What we ask for
In this spirit, we call on the EU to:
- Take action to ensure constant and sufficient humanitarian aid for the population of Gaza, managed by the UN, as established by International Humanitarian Law.
- Use its influence to force Israel to implement a permanent ceasefire and end to the occupation. And that the hostages be returned home and the Palestinian prisoners released.
- Suspend the association agreement with the State of Israel due to the violation of the clause on respect for human rights, included in the agreement.
- Immediately establish an embargo on the purchase and sale of arms to Israel.
Actions aim
The focus is on the EU, this is why the action is taking place in Brussels.
With the people of Gaza, and in particular women and children, always in mind, the key features of the initiative are:
- Lobbying the EU to take a stronger stance and action against the genocide in Gaza.
- Solidarity with the population that suffers and dies every day.
- Testimony: step out of your comfort zone and raise your voice in defense of human rights and international law.
Action Plan
1.- The main message is ‘Leaving Home for Gaza’.
2.- The action core is a symbolic and strictly nonviolent women’s camp. The camp will be placed in the garden of La Viale, from 10 to 19, October. First days (10-12) will be dedicated to organizing tasks.
a.- Capacity for approximately 40 tents, accommodating 80–100 campers.
b.- Responsibility must be assumed, ensuring order, cleanliness, and respect for quiet hours.
c.- No activities will be carried out during the camp that may cause disturbance to the surroundings.
3.- The activities scheduled throughout the week will be coordinated with Belgian social associations and organizations, and will take place in venues or spaces requested with the corresponding permits.
4.- The activities will conclude on Saturday the 18th with a major symbolic action consisting of a human chain, “Embrace the Parliament,” (Starting point: camping La Viale at 10:00 a.m.) which will end with a gathering at Place du Luxembourg.
